23-year-old Senegalese centre-back Modou Lamine Tambedou has extended his contract with Estonian club Nõmme Kalju until the end of the 2028 season.
Football club Nõmme Kalju has extended the contract of 23-year-old Senegalese central defender Modou Lamine Tambedou until the end of the 2028 season. He joined the team in winter 2025 and has since become one of the most notable players in the Premium League. The club's press service announced on Thursday that his physical strength and leadership qualities have cemented his status as a key defender.
Tambedou's arrival in Estonia is atypical for the local championship. The Premium League is often seen as a springboard for moving to stronger European leagues, but Tambedou came to Estonia after a career stint in Belgium. Before joining Nõmme Kalju, he played for Zulte Waregem, and according to Transfermarkt, his transfer value previously exceeded one million euros. Due to circumstances beyond the player's control, his career in Belgium was interrupted, after which he continued playing in Estonia.
Tambedou himself stated that he is pleased with the extension and feels at home in the club thanks to the support of coaches, teammates, and fans. He emphasized that Nõmme Kalju has clear ambitions, and his personal goal is to continue developing and help the team win trophies.
Club president Kuno Tehva said that the contract extension aligns with Nõmme Kalju's long-term strategy. According to him, the club focuses on player development and creating conditions for their growth. He also noted that the experience of players like Canadian Promise David, who recently scored at the World Cup, confirms the effectiveness of this model, and expressed confidence that Tambedou can return to top European leagues in the future.
