Estonia to see frequent rain in early September, night frosts expected by month's end
Meteorologists at Estonia's Environment Agency forecast frequent rain in the first half of September, with drier weather later in the month and possible night frosts toward its end.
Forecasters at Estonia's Environment Agency have released their outlook for September, predicting a wet and changeable start to the month followed by drier conditions later on.
Wet start to the month
During the first half of September, Estonia will lie on the southern edge of a broad low-pressure zone moving from the Atlantic across Scandinavia toward the east. Brief rain showers are expected almost daily, with heavier or more frequent rainfall alternating between northern and southern Estonia on different days. Winds will mostly be moderate and westerly.
More high pressure later in the month
In the second half of September, high-pressure systems are expected to become more dominant, reducing the number of rainy days.
Temperatures set to gradually decline
Air temperatures will gradually drop over the course of the month. In early September, daytime highs could still reach +15 to +19°C. The first cooler nights, when near-surface temperatures may fall close to 0°C, are expected around mid-month.
A brief warming spell is then expected, followed by another temperature drop in the last quarter of the month, when night temperatures in mainland Estonia could again fall to around 0°C.
Overall, the average temperature for September is expected to be within the climate norm or slightly above it — the norm being +11.1 to +13.9°C. Rainfall is also forecast to be near normal, with some areas seeing slightly more than the norm of 52-63 mm.
