Serato DJ Arrives on iPhone and iPad
DJ software maker Serato has released a version of its professional DJ app for iOS devices. It is the first time most of the features of the company's flagship app have been available on a mobile device.
Serato, a developer of DJ software, has released Serato DJ for iOS, bringing its professional-level DJ suite to the iPhone and iPad.
Until now, the company's mobile efforts were limited, such as the Pyro app, which mainly added automatic fades between songs in a playlist. This is the first time most of the features of its flagship DJ app are available on a mobile device. Competitors such as Rekordbox and Algoriddim have offered full mobile DJ apps for some time.
Features
DJs used to Serato on a laptop should find the workflow familiar. A music library can be transferred from Serato DJ 5.0 on a laptop to an iOS device over USB-C or wirelessly. The mobile version supports stem separation, which splits tracks into individual elements, and the company's full set of effects. It also includes EQ tools, BPM matching, key sync, cue points and recording, for live performance and for capturing sets afterward.
DJs can work directly on the touchscreen in several layouts, and the app also supports more than 120 hardware controllers. Some older controllers may need an adapter. Digital Vinyl Systems (DVS), used for scratching by DJs who prefer the feel of real records, are supported as well.
Pricing
Serato DJ for iOS can be downloaded from the App Store as a feature-limited version. A license costs $149, or it can be obtained bundled with Serato DJ Pro, Serato Studio and all of their expansions for $14.99 a month.
