Serena Williams made her long-awaited return to singles tennis at Wimbledon, but it ended in a narrow defeat. The 23-time Grand Slam champion lost to Australia's Maya Joint 3-6, 7-6(8-6), 3-6 in a thrilling contest that lasted nearly three hours. Williams took the first set comfortably, but Joint fought back to win the second set in a tiebreak after saving a set point. In the deciding set, Joint broke early and held on to secure the biggest win of her career. Despite the loss, Williams showed glimpses of her old form, moving well and striking the ball cleanly. This was her first singles match at Wimbledon since returning from maternity leave, and she received a warm reception from the Centre Court crowd.
