Sesks crew starts Finland WRC round with 19th place in opening stage
Latvian rally driver Mārtiņš Sesks and co-driver Renārs Francis finished 19th in the first stage of the WRC Finland rally, placing 12th in the WRC category.
Mārtiņš Sesks and his co-driver Renārs Francis completed the first stage of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Finland round on Thursday. The Latvian crew finished with the 19th fastest time, a modest start to the event. In the WRC classification, they placed 12th out of 12 crews.
The fastest in the stage was Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux of Hyundai, who beat his teammate Thierry Neuville from Belgium by 1.1 seconds and Britain's Elfyn Evans (Toyota) by 1.2 seconds. Sesks lost 6.2 seconds to Fourmaux.
The rally continues on Friday with nine stages starting at 8:45, Saturday with eight stages from 8:00, and Sunday with two final stages, the first at 10:35. Live coverage is available on Go3 Sport 1.
After nine WRC rounds, the championship leader is Britain's Elfyn Evans with 177 points. Japan's Takamoto Katsuta is second with 152 points, and Finland's Sami Pajari, winner of the Estonia rally, is third with 144 points. The Sesks crew has 12 points, placing them 15th overall.
The 2026 WRC calendar includes 14 rounds, but Sesks is running a partial season with at least six starts. After Finland, he is scheduled to compete in Italy (October 1–4) and possibly Saudi Arabia (November 11–14).
