Sesks' WRC season may end early as FIA weighs Saudi Arabia rally decision
The FIA is expected to decide within days on whether the Saudi Arabia rally will go ahead amid tensions in the Middle East, a call that could shorten Martins Sesks' season. Several teams have already said they will skip the event.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) is set to announce in the coming days a decision on holding motorsport events in the tense Middle East region, including whether the Saudi Arabia rally, scheduled for November, will take place.
Latvian driver Martins Sesks has two rounds left this WRC season — the Sardinia rally in early October and the Saudi Arabia rally in November. Should the FIA decide to cancel the Saudi Arabia round, Sesks' season could conclude earlier than originally planned.
Teams split on the issue
Sesks' team, M-Sport, said it would support whatever decision the FIA makes regarding the Saudi Arabia rally. Rival teams Hyundai and Toyota, however, have already announced they do not intend to send their drivers to the event regardless of the FIA's final ruling.
Five rounds completed so far
Sesks has competed in five WRC rounds this season — in Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Estonia and Finland. His best result so far was seventh place in Estonia, followed by an eighth-place finish in Greece.
