Latvian rally driver Mārtiņš Sesks currently does not know what his plans will be for the next season of the World Rally Championship (WRC), he told the championship organisers. The WRC is the top-level rally series, with events held in various countries.

Sesks and co-driver Renārs Francis compete for the M-Sport Ford team. Over the previous two seasons, the crew took part in roughly half of the championship's rounds. This year, tyre punctures at the rallies in Sweden, Portugal, Greece and Italy made it hard for the Latvians to fight for high positions. At Rally Finland, the crew had a crash on the 14th stage.

"We did not have a single rally where some problems did not arise. That is how this season turned out," the WRC quoted Sesks as saying. He described the season as difficult, but said the crew again set good stage times and reached the top three. Even so, in his words, it ultimately led nowhere, and he does not even know how to assess his season.

Wish for more frequent starts

Next season, Sesks hopes to compete more regularly and without long breaks between rallies. "The last two years have been truly great, driving in the top category, but if you do not start a full season, then turning up for a single rally and then struggling is difficult for me," he said.

In the driver's view, the number of rounds may not be decisive, but it is important to settle into the rhythm of competition. As an example he cited Rally Finland, where the crew was able to fight with the fastest cars. That was when it began to reach a really good pace, but then a two-month break followed before the next rally.

Sesks finished the season 16th in the WRC overall standings.
