Sixth day without power: storm-hit residents frustrated by disappearing data on outage map

Several days after a severe storm, parts of Latvia still lack electricity, and residents are voicing frustration on social media that submitted outage reports change or vanish from the grid operator's map. "Sadales tīkls" continues repair work and urges people to report outages not shown on the map.

Several days after a powerful storm caused widespread damage across Latvia, electricity has still not been restored in parts of the country, now entering a sixth day without power for some residents. On social media, several people have shared their experiences, expressing frustration over how information is displayed on the outage map run by grid operator "Sadales tīkls".

Vanishing information on the map

One user on the platform "X" noted that the date her outage report was submitted had disappeared from the map entirely. She acknowledged that she understands the responsible services are currently overwhelmed with work, but stressed that there simply aren't enough people to handle everything in time.

Another user replied that the outage report may need to be resubmitted, suggesting that could explain why the original entry vanished. Another woman added that the situation with report dates varies from person to person — for some, the old entry disappeared and a new one appeared in its place.

Some commenters noted that five or more days without electricity is a heavy burden even for rural residents who are normally used to being self-sufficient. Another commenter took a more critical tone, pointing to what she saw as a contradiction between the actual situation and claims that every resident matters to the state.

What to do if power still hasn't returned

On its website, "Sadales tīkls" provides an outage map where residents can track the progress of repairs to power interruptions. If a specific outage isn't shown on the map, residents are advised to report it directly to the company.

Residents are also advised to first check whether the problem is isolated to their own property — for instance, whether a circuit breaker has tripped. If neighbors are also without power and the outage isn't listed on the map, it should be reported to "Sadales tīkls".

In cases where power has not been restored for an extended period, residents are advised to check "Sadales tīkls" digital channels for the latest updates and to report the issue again if necessary. Cleanup after the storm continues across the country, with damaged power lines and infrastructure still being repaired in many areas.
