About 42,000 households left without power on Saturday
Power outages affected roughly 42,000 customers of Latvia's grid operator Sadales tīkls on Saturday evening, mainly in the southeast and southwest of the country. The situation in the network remained volatile.

On Saturday, August 22, the number of households without electricity in Latvia rose sharply. According to information provided to the LETA agency by representatives of the distribution system operator Sadales tīkls, power supply disruptions affected around 10,000 customers by 6:00 p.m., but just half an hour later, by 6:30 p.m., that figure had climbed to about 42,000.
The outages primarily affected customers in the southeastern and southwestern parts of Latvia. Sadales tīkls representatives noted that the situation in the electricity network remained unstable and continued to change, suggesting the number of affected households could fluctuate further.
The company is currently working to address the disruptions, though no detailed information has yet been provided about the causes of the outages or an expected timeline for their resolution.
