Storm warning prompts postponement of several events across Latvia
Several public events in Latvia, including a concert in Mežaparks and a half-marathon in Jelgava, have been postponed ahead of a forecast storm with strong winds and heavy rain on Saturday, August 22. Fire and rescue authorities are urging organizers and residents to assess safety risks themselves.

Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) is calling on residents and event organizers to act responsibly ahead of potentially hazardous weather forecast for Saturday, August 22, when both strong winds and heavy rain are expected. The information was confirmed to the LETA news agency by service representatives.
According to VUGD, the decision on whether an outdoor event can safely proceed under such conditions should ultimately rest with the organizers themselves, based on their own assessment of the risks at each specific location and time.
Events already rescheduled
Several major public events have already responded to the storm forecast by postponing their planned dates. These include a concert in Mežaparks and a half-marathon in Jelgava. Similar decisions have affected other events as well, including municipal celebrations planned in various parts of Latvia.
Organizers are expected to inform attendees and participants separately about the specific new dates and details for the rescheduled events.
