Saturday storm: rain to give way to strong winds, thousands left without power
An August 22 storm has already flooded streets, toppled trees and disrupted power supply to several thousand households in Latvia, with even stronger gusts expected in the evening.

A storm hit Latvia on August 22, already causing problems in several parts of the country. Rain has led to flooded streets, trees have fallen in a number of locations, and power outages have affected several thousand households.
No reports of storm-related injuries have been received so far. However, weather conditions are expected to worsen further, with winds intensifying in the evening hours and gusts in some areas potentially exceeding 30 meters per second.
Call for caution
Residents are urged to be especially careful under these conditions and to avoid situations that could put their safety at risk. The State Fire and Rescue Service has reminded the public that the emergency number 112 should only be called when there is a genuine threat to human health, life or the surrounding environment — not for storm-related inconveniences that pose no direct danger.
