Šietiņa finishes fifth in javelin at Diamond League final

Latvian athlete Anete Šietiņa finished fifth in the women's javelin throw at Saturday's Diamond League season final in Brussels.

Her best attempt came in the third round, when she threw 59.26 metres. Her second throw reached 54.72 metres, while her first, fourth and fifth attempts were not valid, and she skipped her sixth attempt.

China's young star takes the title

The competition was won by 19-year-old Chinese thrower Yan Ziyi, who secured the Diamond League trophy with a throw of 68.42 metres, setting a new meet record in Brussels. Japan's Haruka Kitaguchi took second place with 65.44 metres, while Colombia's Flor Denise Ruiz-Hurtado finished third with 64.07 metres. Serbia's Adriana Vilagoša also passed the 60-metre mark with a throw of 62.22 metres. Norway's Sigrid Borge finished behind Šietiņa with a result of 58.08 metres.

Records set in other events too

Other disciplines also produced notable results on Saturday. In the men's shot put, Jamaica's Rajindra Campbell won the Diamond League title, throwing 23.08 metres in his final attempt — the first time in his career he surpassed 23 metres, as well as a new Jamaican national record and world season's best. In the men's triple jump, Andy Diaz Hernandez set a new Brussels meet record in his very first attempt, jumping 17.74 metres. Cuba's Lazaro Martinez had a disappointing competition, withdrawing after two failed opening attempts.
