Appeals to donate money for expensive medicines appear regularly on social media in Latvia. One of them is a Facebook post by a woman named Agnese, who describes her illness and asks for support to continue her treatment.

Illness and treatment

Agnese writes that she has metastatic breast cancer, meaning the disease has spread beyond the site of the original tumour. She has been through several lines of treatment. When her previous therapy stopped working and the disease progressed to her liver, a medical panel prescribed her Enhertu. She says she places great hope in it.

According to her, 5,200 euros is the amount needed to extend her life by three weeks.

State support refused

Agnese says she applied for state support but was turned down. She continues to seek a review of that decision. Because her illness does not wait for decisions to be made, she has opened a fundraiser on the Ziedot.lv platform.

She writes that donors have already helped collect money for several doses of therapy, but the treatment must continue and its costs are high. She stresses that she is not asking others to take responsibility for her life, but for the chance to keep fighting it herself.

The woman asks those who can to donate, and others to share the post so that it reaches people who might be able to help.
