Woman in critical condition after shark attack at Coogee beach
A woman sustained severe arm and leg injuries in a shark attack off Sydney's coast; multiple beaches closed as a precaution.

A woman in her 30s is fighting for her life after being bitten by a shark at Coogee beach on Saturday. The attack occurred shortly after 11am, leaving the victim with serious arm and leg wounds. Bystanders pulled her from the water and administered first aid before emergency services arrived. NSW Police and ambulance crews treated her at the scene. Initially, plans were made to airlift her via Careflight helicopter, and Coogee Oval was cleared for landing, but she was eventually taken by road to St Vincent's Hospital in critical condition. Following the incident, Coogee beach and neighboring Clovelly and Bronte beaches were closed. At Tamarama beach to the north, surf lifesavers ordered swimmers and surfers out of the water, citing the Coogee incident. Police have confirmed that the woman, believed to be in her 30s, sustained serious injuries to her arm and leg. The investigation into the type of shark involved is ongoing.
