Woman's social media post urges drivers to always buckle up, not only when police are near
A woman posted on Threads that some drivers fasten their seat belts only when they spot what looks like a police car. Her post sparked a discussion about seat belt habits.

Every year Latvia's roads see numerous accidents, and traffic safety is threatened both by drunk drivers and by motorists who ignore basic rules. Experts regularly remind the public that a seat belt can save a life, even though some crashes are so severe that even a belt would not help.
A Threads user named Evita shared her own experience. She said that while stopped at a red light, a man who pulled up behind her began fastening his seat belt. Her car is not marked as a police vehicle, but it resembles one. At first the scene seemed amusing, she wrote, but she later concluded there was nothing funny about it.
Evita urged people to buckle up always and everywhere, including in the back of the car, rather than only when they notice a real or apparent police patrol. She stressed that one day the belt may save a person's life.
Humor and agreement in the comments
The post drew a response. One woman said that buckling up had become such an automatic action for her that driving through a yard without a belt feels like breaking the law. The post's author added that when she does not buckle up, she feels as if she were naked.
Another user, Elvis, noted that acquaintances of his own an old unmarked Škoda that commands quite a lot of respect on the road. Evita replied with a joke that Škodas have power.
At the end of its article, the portal La.lv invited readers to take a poll on whether they wear a seat belt when travelling by car.
