Sigulda's bobsleigh and luge track will host the Murjāņi Sports Gymnasium (MSĢ) Cup in road cycling on Saturday, one of the most tradition-rich road cycling events in Latvia. This year marks the 40th edition of the competition.

In recent years the race has been held at the Sigulda track because it features one of the steepest and longest paved climbs in the country. Cyclists will race around a loop of more than 800 metres, making the hill-climb format dynamic and exciting to watch. The event also serves as preparation for the Latvian Cyclists' Union ride scheduled for the following day.

Format

The start is set for 17:00, with riders sent off individually at one-minute intervals. The competition will be held across 12 age and skill categories in total, and within these the Latvian champions in the hill-climb discipline will also be determined.

Organisers expect around 200 participants, coming not only from Latvia but also from Lithuania and Estonia.

Favourites and prizes

Several clear favourites are set to compete for the win, including Edvards Vēvers, Ģirts Harkins, Arvīds Logins, Ralfs Zaļeskis and Olivers Šika. The fastest man and fastest woman will receive the main prize of 250 euros, provided by event supporter the Latvian Cycling Development Support Agency.
