BFC Daugavpils secured a 3-1 victory over FK Liepāja at home on Sunday in the Latvian Virslīga round 22, powered by a hat-trick from Mamadou Sillā.

The first half was evenly matched until the 41st minute, when Sillā broke from a counter-attack, used a feint to evade defenders, and beat goalkeeper Dāvis Ošs to make it 1-0.

Sillā struck twice early in the second half, both with headers: in the 50th minute after Vladislavs Sorokin slipped, and in the 56th minute from a cross by Ziads Uleds, putting Daugavpils up 3-0.

Sillā had a chance for a fourth goal later, but Ošs saved. Liepāja scored a consolation goal in stoppage time through Džibrils Gejs after a VAR check confirmed the goal was legal.

Daugavpils earned their seventh win of the season, moving to fifth place with 27 points, one point behind fourth-placed Liepāja. Liepāja has lost four of their last five league matches, three without scoring.

Argentine debutant Leonel Strumija played just over an hour for Liepāja. Referee Aleksandrs Anufrijevs booked Haidara.
