The series ‘Silo’ is set in a post-apocalyptic world where 10,000 people live in a giant underground bunker. The show has explored the inhabitants’ struggle with boredom, oppression, and rebellion. In season one, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) discovers the surface is survivable, contrary to what the silo’s rulers claim. Season two ends with Juliette trapped in an airlock with the villainous Bernard (Tim Robbins).

Season three opens with Juliette back in Silo 18 but suffering from amnesia, forcing viewers through a tedious memory recovery plot. The most significant change is the introduction of a new timeline, set centuries ago in a world that looks like the early-to-mid 21st century. Iran has detonated a dirty bomb in the US, and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) and journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) investigate. Their work will eventually influence the creation of the silos.

The flashback storyline provides a welcome escape from the bunker’s gloom—characters drive cars, visit parks, and walk in offices with windows. The show continues to grapple with big questions about power, society, and history, but season three adds a lighter touch. Critics note that while ‘Silo’ is handsomely produced and politically astute, it often feels murky and suffocating; the new timeline injects much-needed fresh air.
