Ex-teammate of Šilovs, Mantha signs $9.5M contract with New Jersey
Forward Anthony Mantha, who played alongside Latvian goalie Artūrs Šilovs in Pittsburgh last season, has agreed to a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the New Jersey Devils after a career-best campaign.

Anthony Mantha has signed with the New Jersey Devils following a strong comeback season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 31-year-old forward reached a two-year deal worth $9.5 million, averaging $4.75 million per season, on Monday, July 15.
Mantha joined the Penguins last season on a $1.25 million contract, where he played alongside Latvian goaltender Artūrs Šilovs. After recovering from a serious injury, he had a standout season, appearing in 81 games, scoring 33 goals, and recording 64 points – all career highs. His previous best was 25 goals and 48 points in 2018-19.
On the Penguins, only captain Sidney Crosby (74 points), defenseman Erik Karlsson (66 points), and forward Bryan Rust (65 points) outscored Mantha. In the 2024-25 season, while with the Calgary Flames, Mantha tore his ACL in November after just 13 games, leading to a lengthy absence. Following his recovery, he proved he could be a key contributor in Pittsburgh.
After becoming an unrestricted free agent, Mantha was without a team for the first two weeks of July before finalizing the contract with New Jersey.
