In the National Hockey League (NHL), North America's top professional ice hockey league, the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs, surrendered a lead in the final second of regulation and then lost 4-3 in overtime at home to the Utah Mammoth. Silovs stopped 30 of 34 shots, a save rate of 88.2%. In the first period, Utah forward Logan Cooley beat the Latvian twice, giving the Mammoth a 2-0 lead. Pittsburgh fought back: Rickard Rakell scored shorthanded, and Erik Karlsson also scored. Ben Kindel put the Penguins ahead 3-2 with 25 seconds left in regulation.

In the final second, Cooley tipped the puck into the net from the left side of the goal to make it 3-3, completing the third hat trick of his career. It was the latest tying goal in Mammoth history. With three hat tricks, Cooley passed Nick Schmaltz on the club's list. According to the source, this was only the tenth game in NHL history in which one team took the lead and the other tied it within the last 30 seconds of regulation.

In the fourth minute of overtime, Mikhail Sergachev scored the winner. Utah goaltender Sebastian Cossa stopped 31 shots. Cooley, who was born in Pittsburgh, was returning to his hometown and became the third local player, after Brandon Saad and R.J. Umberger, to score three goals in one game against the Penguins.

Girgensons missed the game with a lower-body injury sustained in the team's previous game. With six wins in their first six home games, the Lightning matched a club record; the team had the same start in 2017-18 and 2020-21.

Pontus Holmberg had a goal and three assists, the most productive game of his NHL career. The score was 1-1 after the first period, but the hosts scored four unanswered goals in the second to lead 5-1. The visitors cut the gap to 4-5 in the third period, but Holmberg sealed the win with an empty-net shot. Neal Pionk scored twice in his 600th NHL game, yet the Jets suffered their seventh straight loss.
