Singapore's NUS Enterprise expands to Munich and Shanghai, launches Nova AI platform
NUS Enterprise, now rebranded as NUSX, is opening outposts in Munich and Shanghai and has launched an AI tool called Nova to help commercialise university patents.

NUS Enterprise, the entrepreneurship arm of the National University of Singapore, has rebranded itself as NUSX and announced its first European outpost in Munich, established through a partnership with German organisation UnternehmerTUM. A further outpost is planned in Shanghai in the fourth quarter of this year, following the opening of its first outpost at Playground Global in Silicon Valley earlier in the summer.
The new outposts are part of NUSX's globalisation strategy, aimed at giving Singaporean deep tech ventures earlier access to overseas markets, investors and partners across the United States, Europe and China. The Munich outpost will act as a gateway to Europe, while insights gathered abroad are expected to flow back to strengthen research and commercialisation at NUS in Singapore. The partnership with UnternehmerTUM covers reciprocal outposts, investment and talent development, initially focused on biotech, AI and semiconductors.
New tool for patent commercialisation
Together with Zima Labs, NUSX has developed an AI-powered platform called Nova to support the commercialisation of university research. An estimated 70–80% of university patents worldwide are never licensed, often because researchers lack visibility into which industries or companies could use their inventions. Within minutes, Nova can analyse a patent, assess its licensing potential, rank possible licensees by fit, and draft tailored proposals while flagging the patent's limitations.
The platform draws on data from more than 20,000 NUS patents and invention disclosures, 9,000 research projects and 11,000 inventors, combining it with external intelligence on companies, investors and market activity.
NUSX has set goals for 2035, including creating at least one NUS venture generating over US$100 million in annual revenue or 1,000 jobs, generating US$1 billion in financial returns from NUS ventures, and building ventures that improve the lives of one billion people. The initiatives were announced at the inaugural A5X summit, attended by Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, Tan Kiat How.
