From shock loss to Wimbledon champion

Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, beating Alexander Zverev in four sets to become the 10th man in the Open era to retain the men's singles crown.

The Italian world number one came from a set down in the final. After nearly three hours, he fell to the ground mid-rally, got up, and forced an error from Zverev to secure the first break of the match. From there, Sinner never looked back.

Road to the title

Sinner's path to glory was far from smooth. At the French Open, he suffered a stunning second-round loss to Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo after leading two sets and 5-1. That defeat raised questions about his stamina.

In the first round at Wimbledon, Sinner faced another scare, coming from a set down to beat Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets—only his second win in his last 10 five-set matches.

In the semifinals, Sinner dominated Novak Djokovic in straight sets in just two hours and 20 minutes, facing only one break point, which he erased with an ace.

Sinner's coach, Darren Cahill, praised his resilience: "There have been a few kicks in the stomach along the way. What makes us most proud is the way he comes back. It doesn't put him down for long."

Earlier this season, Sinner rattled off a 30-match winning streak from March to May and won five straight Masters 1000 titles.

Former British No. 1 Tim Henman said: "A worthy champion, an incredible defence of his title. As the great players do, they find the way to win."

Marion Bartoli, former Wimbledon champion, added: "We have seen the new Novak Djokovic for the next 10-15 years."

Following the tournament, Zverev will rise to world No. 2, replacing the injured Carlos Alcaraz.
