One person has died and several others were hurt in an incident involving a rollercoaster at the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park in the US state of Georgia on Monday afternoon. The park lies roughly 25km (15 miles) north-west of Atlanta, and the Cobb County police department reported the incident.

Police have not confirmed how the person died or what caused the other injuries. Several media outlets, citing eyewitnesses and anonymous local officials, report that a person fell from the park's Goliath rollercoaster.

About the ride

Goliath has operated at the park since 2006. It reaches a top speed of 110km/h (70mph) and has a 175ft drop.

Park response

A Six Flags spokesperson said park staff and local authorities responded immediately, and that the company is fully cooperating with the investigation. The spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today."

Earlier cases

Late last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in southern California announced it was retiring its X2 rollercoaster, which faces lawsuits alleging serious brain injuries. Six Flags recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding the coaster in 2022. Three more lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week.
