Scaloni praises Argentina's comeback spirit after another comeback victory
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni hailed his team's never-say-die mentality after they came from behind to beat England 2-1 in the World Cup semifinal, calling it 'epic squared'.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has lauded his team's refusal to give up after another dramatic comeback win, this time against England in the World Cup semifinal. The match in Atlanta saw Argentina fall behind 1-0 but rally to win 2-1, securing a spot in the final.
Scaloni said the team plays best when facing adversity. "There was blood in the water, and we went for it. That's the feeling I was getting," he stated. Argentina created numerous chances, hitting the crossbar and post, and having six or seven clear opportunities. The coach emphasized the importance of fighting until the end.
This marked the second knockout-stage comeback for Argentina, following their last-16 win over Egypt, which Scaloni had described as 'epic'. When asked to label Wednesday's victory, he offered: "Epic squared?"
Scaloni highlighted the collective effort. "This group is difficult to explain. It is a show of collectiveness, brotherhood, and fighting to the very end," he said. He noted that the players fear nothing and play without pressure, like children at age seven or eight, unconcerned about missing or the magnitude of the semifinal.
Argentina will now face European champions Spain in the final in New Jersey on Sunday. Scaloni has the chance to lead the South Americans to a fourth consecutive major title, following the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América triumphs.
