Šķēle and Pērkins lead the way as VEF Rīga and Rīgas zeļļi claim wins in Baltic league
VEF Rīga and Rīgas zeļļi won their Latvian-Estonian Basketball League games on Saturday, while Liepāja suffered a defeat in Estonia.
In Saturday's Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) games, VEF Rīga defeated Ogre on the road, Rīgas zeļļi beat Tallinn's TalTech, while Liepāja lost to Pärnu.
VEF Rīga cruise to victory
VEF Rīga secured a convincing 92:73 away win. Armands Šķēle led the winners with 18 points and four assists, Jordan Sears added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Marek Mejeris scored 13 points. Ogre's top scorer was Juris Vītols with 18 points. VEF Rīga has started the season with two wins in two games, while this was Ogre's first game of the season.
Rīgas zeļļi win away
Rīgas zeļļi were the better team on the road, beating Tallinn's TalTech 79:73. Tony Perkins stood out with 28 points, five rebounds and three assists. Tyler Wall added 16 points, as did Ben Shungu. The home team's top scorer was Oliver Metsalu with 19 points. Rīgas zeļļi have started the season with two wins, while the Tallinn side played its first match of the season.
Liepāja falls short
Liepāja lost 73:76 away to Pärnu. Liepāja's top scorer was Rodie Machoha with 14 points, while Edgars Lasenbergs and Francis Neilands each added 12 points. Pärnu's Mihkel Kirves stood out with 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists. This was the season opener for both teams.
Eight teams represent Latvia in this LIBL season, with seven representing Estonia. Teams will play a double round-robin in the regular season, with the top eight advancing to the quarterfinals. The champion will be decided on April 10, 2027.
