Scottish clubs learn potential European opponents
Hearts, Rangers, and other Scottish teams discover who they could face in UEFA competition qualifiers.
Heart of Midlothian will face Fenerbahce or Gornik Zabrze in the Champions League third qualifying round if they eliminate Sturm Graz. Both clubs finished as runners-up in their respective leagues last season – Fenerbahce in Turkey and Gornik in Poland. Should Hearts lose to Sturm Graz, they would drop into the Europa League, where Benfica or St Gallen await.
Rangers, seeded in the Europa League third qualifying round, have been drawn against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok, who finished just behind Gornik on goal difference.
Champions League third-round ties are scheduled for 4/5 and 11/12 August, while Europa League matches take place on 6 and 13 August. Full details of home and away legs remain to be confirmed.
Hearts' last Champions League qualifying campaign was in 2006-07, when they lost to AEK Athens in the third round.
Rangers, who began last season in Champions League qualifying, finished 32nd in the Europa League league phase with only one win in eight matches.
In the Conference League, Motherwell will play HJK Helsinki or Coleraine if they get past HB of the Faroe Islands. Meanwhile, Hibernian face NK Bravo or KF Shkendija if they beat Kosovan side FK Malisheva.
