Latvia's Skujiņš finishes fourth at European Championship road race
Latvian cyclist Krišjānis Skujiņš placed fourth in the European Championship men's road race, which was won by Belgium's Remco Evenepoel.

The European Championship men's road race between Ljubljana and Šenčur covered 196.2 kilometers, with the second half of the route split into five laps, each featuring a climb.
The decisive move came on the second-to-last lap, when Italy's Giulio Ciccone and Belgium's Remco Evenepoel broke away from the leading group, which also included Latvia's Krišjānis Skujiņš. The pair built a gap of roughly ten seconds, and their advantage grew further during the first half of the final lap.
A tight finish at the front
In the closing kilometer, Ciccone briefly managed to extend his lead, but Evenepoel proved faster in the sprint to the line and edged out the Italian by a narrow margin. Both riders crossed the finish in four hours, 16 minutes and 37 seconds.
Meanwhile, Skujiņš began the final lap with the chasing group, from which France's Matis Rondel and Italy's Cristian Scaroni broke clear. Scaroni went on to secure third place, finishing 59 seconds behind the winners.
Skujiņš fell short of the podium, losing one minute and 13 seconds to the leaders and finishing in fourth place. Still, that marks an improvement on last year, when he placed fifth at the European Championship.
