Skullcandy's new Crusher 1080 ANC headphones feature Bose technologies

Skullcandy announced a new version of its Crusher wireless headphones today, featuring several Bose audio technologies including QuietControl ANC and head-tracking spatial audio. The Crusher line differentiates itself by using both full-range and dedicated bass drivers in each ear cup to boost lower frequencies. Skullcandy admits this approach can result in audio quality loss when bass is heavily boosted, but the new Crusher 1080 ANC aim to improve that with Bose's help.

Available starting today for $279.99 in black, candy, primer, and cement colors, the Crusher 1080 ANC feature redesigned drivers with a stiffer diaphragm material for enhanced clarity and less distortion at higher volumes. As with previous Crusher models, bass boosting is adjustable via Skullcandy's mobile app or on-headphone controls, which now include a more prominent external dial.

The Crusher 1080 ANC are the first non-Bose headphones to feature Bose's TrueSpatial audio technology with head tracking, which works whether stationary or running, and its WaveForm audio engine that "keeps audio full, balanced, and smooth." They offer industry-leading noise cancellation with Bose's six-microphone QuietControl ANC that adapts to surrounding sounds. The headphones also feature Bose's SpeechClarity for clearer calls, though they are not the first third-party headphones to include it.

Battery life is estimated at up to 60 hours with ANC off, or 50 hours with ANC on, while a 10-minute rapid charge provides up to four hours of playback. Other features include multipoint pairing for multiple devices, auto reconnect, wear detection that pauses music when removed, and a fold-flat design for easier storage. The Crusher 1080 ANC support Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio, low latency audio, and Auracast.
