A new set of political conditions has emerged in Latvia: the party Latvia First (LPV) would be ready to back a minority government led by Andris Kulbergs (AS). A minority government is one that lacks a majority in parliament from its own coalition deputies, so it depends on support from other parties. LPV's readiness was described to the LETA news agency by the party's leader, Ainārs Šlesers.

Three conditions

Šlesers said support would be possible if Kulbergs offered three things:

  • a reform of public administration;
  • a government of professionals;
  • a programme to boost the birth rate.

The source report does not explain in more detail how LPV understands these demands or which specific steps it would consider sufficient. It also does not say whether Kulbergs has already responded to the conditions.
