Slovakia's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs said the country strongly condemns Russia's strike on a building of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) in Kyiv, noting that the site is located close to the consular section of the Slovak embassy. The ministry cited Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár in a social media statement.

According to the statement, the consular section building is used in a limited capacity for security reasons, and no one was present there at the time of the strike.

Minister's statement

Blanár said Slovakia firmly condemns today's Russian attack using a jet-powered drone on the SBU building located near the consular section of the Slovak embassy in Kyiv. He called on Russia to refrain from actions that could endanger the lives and safety of innocent civilians. He also urged both sides to avoid further escalation that increases tension and does not contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Blanár said he had instructed that Russia's ambassador to Slovakia be summoned.

Background

On the afternoon of September 4, a Russian drone hit the office of Oleksandr Poklad, acting head of Ukraine's Security Service, inside the SBU building in Kyiv. The general was not in his office at the time of the strike.
