At the World Championships in canoe and kayak sprint, Latvian athlete Akmens finished fourth in his semifinal over the 200-metre distance. Since only the three fastest racers advanced to the A final, Akmens missed that mark by just 0.18 seconds and will instead compete in the B final.

Vilde/Akmens duo already through to semifinals

In a separate event, the duo of Vilde and Akmens placed third in their qualifying heat among eight pairs. That result put them among the five fastest crews that advanced directly to the semifinal, bypassing any additional qualification round.

Leščinskis falls short in canoe sprint

In the canoe sprint discipline, Staņislavs Leščinskis placed seventh in his 200-metre semifinal among nine paddlers. In that race, the top three advanced to the A final, while the next three moved on to the B final. Leščinskis missed the B final by 0.51 seconds and will not continue in further rounds of that event.

The World Championships in canoe and kayak sprint will conclude on Sunday, when the remaining medals across various distances and disciplines will be decided.
