Smiltene to mark Knowledge Day with a silent disco
Smiltene municipality's Culture Centre is hosting a silent disco called "Back to School" on September 1 to celebrate the start of the new school year. Attendees will listen through wireless headphones, choosing between two DJs.

The Smiltene Municipality Culture Centre is inviting residents to mark the start of the new school year, known as Knowledge Day, in an unconventional way — by attending a silent disco titled "Back to School." The event will take place on Tuesday, September 1, starting at 6 p.m.
The disco will be held in the Culture Centre's courtyard, with an indoor venue as a backup in case of rain.
Two DJs, personal choice
The evening's music will be provided by two DJs, ALEXX REA and Ralph Dave. According to Līva Ūdre, the Culture Centre's artistic director, each DJ will play their own set, while attendees will be given special headphones that let them choose which DJ to listen to and switch between them at any moment if they don't like a particular song.
Ūdre notes that from the outside, it will look as though people are dancing in silence, since the music will only be audible through the headphones.
Headphones will be handed out at the entrance and must be returned after the event. Admission to the event is paid.
