Smiltene municipality is inviting residents, businesses and institutions to submit nominations for its highest honors by October 5, 2026. Winners will be honored at an event marking the anniversary of Latvia's independence proclamation.
The Communications Department of Smiltene municipality is inviting residents, businesses and institutions to submit nominations by October 5, 2026, for the municipality's highest honors — the "Smiltene Municipality Person of Honor" and "Smiltene Municipality Award of the Year."
What the awards recognize
The "Person of Honor" title is given for sustained and significant contributions to the municipality in public life, culture, education, business or other fields. The "Award of the Year" recognizes outstanding achievements from the past year in seven categories: education, culture, sports, economy, healthcare and social care, tourism, and a category called "Belonging to the Municipality."
Residents and institutions can also nominate candidates for the municipality's "Certificate of Honor" and "Certificate of Gratitude," recognizing local contributions and exemplary work.
How to submit a nomination
Applications must include information about the person submitting the nomination — name, position, represented institution, address and contact details — as well as details about the nominee, including a biography and description of their achievements. Applications can be submitted in person at client service centers and parish administrations, by mail to the municipality's legal address, or electronically with a secure electronic signature.
Submitted applications will be reviewed by the municipality's Awards Commission, with a final decision made by the municipal council. The awards are planned to be presented at a ceremony marking the anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia's independence. The municipality will contact award recipients personally.
