Person Lost in Forest Found After Long Search in Smiltenes Municipality

Yesterday, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) successfully located a person who had gotten lost in the forest in Ape Parish, Smiltenes Municipality. Using an ATV, drone, and acoustic signals from a fire engine, the individual was found and handed over to medics. Additionally, a fire caused by unattended cooking in Riga was extinguished.

At 2:14 PM yesterday, VUGD received a call about a person lost in the forest in Ape Parish, Smiltenes Municipality. Rescuers deployed an ATV and a drone for the search. They also used the siren of a fire engine to guide the person toward the forest exit.

After an extended operation, the individual was located 1.5 kilometers from the point where they had entered the forest. Rescuers carried them out and handed them over to the Emergency Medical Service. The operation concluded at 8:37 PM.

Earlier, at 12:01 PM, VUGD responded to a call on Brīvības Street in Riga, where unattended cooking had caused a fire in a third-floor apartment of a five-story residential building. One person was rescued from the smoke-filled apartment. The response ended at 12:32 PM.

Over the past 24 hours, VUGD received a total of 46 calls: eight for firefighting, 27 for rescue operations, and 11 which turned out to be false alarms.
