Lost person rescued from forest in Smiltene region after lengthy search
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) yesterday located and rescued a person who had gotten lost in a forest in Smiltene region, using a quadricycle, a drone, and sound signals from a fire engine.

Yesterday at 14:14, VUGD received a call to Ape parish in Smiltene region, where a person had become lost in the forest. Rescuers used a quadricycle and an unmanned aerial vehicle in the search. To indicate the direction out of the forest, sound signals from a fire engine were employed. After prolonged search efforts, the person was found 1.5 kilometers from the point where they had entered the forest. Rescuers carried the person out of the forest and handed them over to the Emergency Medical Service. VUGD concluded its operations at the scene at 20:37.
Earlier yesterday, at 12:01, VUGD responded to a call on Brīvības gatve in Riga, where unattended cooking had caught fire in a third-floor apartment of a five-story residential building. One person was rescued from the smoke-filled apartment. The operation concluded at 12:32.
During the past 24 hours, VUGD received 46 calls: eight for firefighting, 27 for rescue operations, and 11 were false alarms.
