The Smiltene municipal government has compiled and released the schedule for the traditional autumn candle-lighting evenings held at cemeteries throughout the region. Every autumn, people across Latvia visit the graves of their relatives to light candles in remembrance of those who have passed away.

Dates and locations

The first candle-lighting evenings in the municipality will take place on September 12 at Palsmane cemetery and at Aumeisteri cemetery in Valka municipality, both starting at 6 p.m.

A week later, on September 19, candles will be lit at Drusti cemetery at 5 p.m.

On the last Saturday of September, the 26th, candle-lighting evenings are scheduled at several sites simultaneously: Smiltene Forest Cemetery at 5 p.m., Smiltene town cemetery at 6 p.m., Ape Forest Cemetery at 4 p.m., and Ape town cemetery at 6 p.m.

The season will conclude on October 3, with commemorations at Rauna cemetery and Gaujiena cemetery, both at 6 p.m.

The municipality encourages residents to check the schedule in advance so they can plan their visits to the respective cemeteries.
