Snap has announced it will hold an event on September 16 at 7 PM ET in Los Angeles, offering the first detailed look at its standalone augmented reality glasses, Specs. The event will be available via livestream.
CEO Evan Spiegel will demonstrate how the glasses bring AI assistance, work tools, entertainment, and shared experiences into the real world, helping users create, connect, learn, and get things done while staying present.
The glasses cost $2,195. Snap opened pre-orders last month, and shipments are expected to begin this fall in the US, UK, and France. The exact timing will likely be revealed at the event.
Specs will come in two sizes: 47mm and a wider 52mm. The battery supports up to four hours of mixed use. The glasses have a built-in browser and AI assistance powered by Snap's partners, OpenAI and Google. Hundreds of AR Lenses (apps) will be available, including games.
The strikingly thick arms of the Specs house two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors—one for computer vision and the other for AR apps.
