A Facebook user has shared a method for quickly cleaning chanterelles that are covered in sand and forest debris.
The technique is simple: place the mushrooms in a bowl, sprinkle them with flour (about two generous tablespoons per kilogram of mushrooms), and pour cold water over them until they are submerged. Stir a few times by hand, then remove the mushrooms and drain the water.
The debris settles with the flour at the bottom of the bowl, leaving the mushrooms clean. The user says the method is effective and allows for cleaning large quantities of chanterelles quickly. Commenters have confirmed that the technique works.
