Municipal police in Rēzekne district have marked one year since they began conducting regular raids on public water bodies alongside their usual street patrols. In addition to maintaining public order, officers now monitor compliance with fishing and angling regulations. This task has been delegated to all local governments in Latvia, making waterbody inspections a regular part of police work.

During raids, the police use drones and other modern equipment. This year, more than 35 illegal fishing gears have been found and pulled from the water. The discoveries show that poaching remains a topical issue in the region. Even though raids have been underway for a year, the number of illegal items found is still considerable.

The presence of municipal police on water bodies helps detect illegal fishing and those responsible. More than 35 recovered fishing gears over the past year demonstrate that illegal fishing has not disappeared from the area.
