IOC Olympic Solidarity awards €26,000 to support young Latvian athletes
Latvia's Olympic Committee has received €26,000 from the IOC's Olympic Solidarity programme to support 18 young athletes preparing for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) has announced it has received €26,000 (US$30,000) in funding from the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity programme. The money will support 18 young Latvian athletes as they prepare for the 4th Youth Olympic Games.
The support will be allocated among 12 Latvian sports federations, covering athletics, 3x3 basketball, swimming, boxing, sailing, cycling, taekwondo, triathlon, dance sport, wushu, beach wrestling and beach sprint rowing. Funds are intended for athlete preparation, including training camps, purchasing equipment and providing medical support.
The 4th Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Dakar, Senegal, from 31 October to 13 November. They will be the first Olympic competition of this scale held on the African continent. Up to 2,700 athletes from 206 national Olympic committees are expected to take part.
