Finland to Silence Last Landline Phones in July
Finland's largest telecom operator Elisa will discontinue fixed-line services, marking the end of the landline era in the country.

Finland's last remaining landline phones will fall silent in early July. Elisa, the largest telecom operator that still provided fixed-line services, has announced it will cease them at the end of June. The company stated earlier this year that it would phase out wired lines for both residential and corporate customers by June 2026.
Another operator, Telia, abandoned landline services back in 2019, and DNA's last wired phones went silent at the turn of this year, according to Yle.
The landline network, which had been operating in Finland since the late 19th century, has rapidly lost users over the past decades. According to Elisa, at the beginning of this year, the company had only a few thousand wired connections. These were used for home phones, fax machines, and elevator intercoms. Elisa has not sold new connections for several years.
However, some calls may still come from familiar landline numbers, as they are now backed by ordinary mobile connections that have retained the familiar number.
