Finland's Population Grows by More Than 9,200 in Nine Months
Finland's population reached 5,662,086 at the end of September 2026, up by 9,205 since the start of the year. Immigration drove the growth, as deaths still outnumber births.

Finland, a Nordic country, had 5,662,086 residents at the end of September 2026. Since the start of the year the population has risen by 9,205 people, according to preliminary data from the national statistics authority. The figures show that growth comes solely from migration, not from natural change.
Migration drives the increase
Finland's statistics office names migration as the main reason for the population growth. In the first nine months, 35,285 people moved to Finland, while 18,365 left the country. Net migration therefore came to 16,920 people.
Deaths exceed births
Over the same period, 36,323 people were born in the country and 43,990 died. Deaths outnumbered births by 7,667, so natural change reduced the population.
The data are preliminary and cover the period from the beginning of the year to the end of September.
