Large gold nugget discovered in Finnish Lapland
A gold nugget weighing nearly 50 grams has been found in the Palsinoja area of Finnish Lapland by experienced prospectors, and named Luna due to its crescent-moon shape.

In Finnish Lapland, in the Palsinoja region, a gold nugget weighing nearly 50 grams has been discovered. The find was reported by Finnish public broadcaster Yle. The nugget was unearthed by experienced gold prospectors Siru Leppänen, Kirsi Ahola, and Antti Leppänen.
Antti Peronius, chairman of the Lapland Gold Prospectors' Union, called the discovery unique. "Gold is usually found by a stream or in the Palsinoja valley. This nugget was lying on a forest hill," he said.
The nugget has been named Luna because of its crescent-moon shape. The find is the result of years of work. Several years ago, the prospectors noticed that gold appears not only in the valley but also on the hill.
As raw material, the nugget is worth 5,000–6,000 euros. However, if it is considered beautiful enough to be used as jewelry without melting, the price could at least double.
