Rainy autumn weather to continue in Latvia this week, monthly rainfall norm already exceeded in many areas
Unsettled, rainy weather will persist in Latvia as new cyclones approach, with improvement only expected by the weekend. Several regions have already exceeded their monthly rainfall norm.
According to Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, last weekend's weather was shaped by the southeastern edge of a cyclone, bringing rain to nearly the entire country and gusty coastal winds. Similar conditions are expected at the start of this week, with thunderstorms possible in some areas.
On Monday, skies will be cloudy with some clearing, and rain is expected on and off across most of the country, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms possible locally. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest and west, reaching gusts of 15–17 m/s along the coast at night. Nighttime temperatures will range from +9 to +14 degrees, rising to +13 to +17 degrees during the day.
Overnight into Tuesday, heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible in some places, while daytime rain will be more scattered with sunny spells. Fog is expected overnight and in the morning in eastern Latvia, reducing visibility. Winds will blow from the west and northwest, later shifting to the north. Nighttime temperatures will be +7 to +10 degrees, warmer along the coast at +11 to +14 degrees, with daytime highs of +14 to +17 degrees.
Midweek and the week's end
On Wednesday, a precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the east, bringing rain to many areas even though skies will start only partly cloudy. Winds will be light to moderate from the northwest and north, gusting up to 15 m/s on the coast, weakening in eastern districts during the day. Nighttime temperatures will be +8 to +11 degrees, up to +14 along the coast, with daytime highs of +12 to +16 degrees.
Temperatures will remain similar toward the end of the work week, though daytime highs won't exceed +15 degrees, and rainy, occasionally gusty conditions will continue. Only on the weekend, as high-pressure systems strengthen, will precipitation ease, winds calm down, and days grow slightly warmer.
