Sonos Plans September Product Event, AI Takes Center Stage
Sonos announced it will unveil new products in September, with artificial intelligence as a core focus, as the company aims to recover from its 2024 app redesign debacle.

Sonos CEO Thomas Conrad revealed during the company’s third-quarter financial call that new product announcements are coming in September. Conrad, who officially took the helm a year ago after an interim period, emphasized that AI will be central to Sonos’ business strategy. He argued that success in smart home AI will not be defined by having the best or fastest model, but by the ecosystem around it: hardware that communicates effectively across rooms, a system that already understands a home’s layout and daily routines, and connectivity that turns a voice request into coordinated action across speakers, services, and devices. Sonos has historically positioned itself as an agnostic player in smart home tech, allowing its speakers to work with multiple voice assistants rather than building its own. The company has also promised better performance and specs than budget alternatives from major brands like Amazon and Google, both of which are pushing AI in their hardware. However, Sonos has been relatively quiet on the product front recently as it continues to recover from a disastrous 2024 app redesign that led to significant staff and executive cuts. The upcoming event, focusing on AI-powered smart home audio, could be a make-or-break moment for the company.
