Major Wildfire Rages in Central Spain, Burning Thousands of Hectares

Firefighters are battling a major wildfire in Spain's Guadalajara province, just north of Madrid, where thousands of hectares have been consumed and more than 1,200 residents have been ordered to flee their homes. Crews are creating firebreaks and using hoses, supported by water-dropping aircraft, to tackle the flames. Spanish authorities report that the wildfire has burned about 29,000 hectares, describing it as one of the most challenging fires they have faced. Smoke continues to drift across the scorched landscape as ground and air teams work to control remaining hotspots.
