Specialists: Non-Formal Education Can Boost a Career
Non-formal education specialists say such studies in Latvia can raise a person's qualifications. They stress deciding beforehand whether the goal is new knowledge or a final document.

Non-formal education in Latvia can become an important springboard for a career, specialists in the field said on the Latvian Radio programme "Kā labāk dzīvot" (How to Live Better). Non-formal education means learning outside the formal education system, such as courses and other training programmes.
The specialists explained that Latvia offers many such opportunities, but not everyone uses them, and not everyone does so effectively enough.
A myth about qualifications
One common belief is that it is not possible to raise your qualifications through non-formal education. According to the programme's guests, this is not true.
Define the goal first
The specialists stressed that before choosing a course, it is important to understand your own aim. You need to decide whether new knowledge matters more, or a final document confirming that the studies were completed. That decision affects which offer is worth choosing.
