Heavy rain floods streets in Jelgava, several intersections closed
Intense rainfall has flooded streets in Jelgava, forcing the closure of several intersections, while central Latvia remains under a red rain warning.

Heavy rain has flooded several streets in Jelgava, prompting the municipality to close traffic at multiple intersections. According to the Jelgava municipality, the intersection of Sakņudārza and Mazais ceļš, as well as the intersection of Oskara Kalpaka and Zirgu streets, have been closed.
Specialists from the municipal enterprise "Pilsētsaimniecība" have organized water pumping from a stormwater collector on Vārpu Street, where water had begun flooding private house properties.
Situation being monitored
The Jelgava municipality says emergency services are monitoring the situation across the city, and storm drains are being cleared of debris that is obstructing rainwater drainage. The municipality warned that traffic may be closed in other parts of the city if necessary, and urged drivers not to take risks or drive through flooded streets.

Meteorologists report prolonged and extremely heavy rain in Latvia's central districts, with thunderstorms in some areas. Precipitation is expected to continue into the night of August 23, meaning the red rain warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. on August 23.
