Heavy rain floods streets in Riga, storm expected in the evening

Heavy rain flooded streets in several parts of Riga on Saturday, including underpasses beneath bridges, making driving difficult in multiple locations. After midday, as the rain eased, city water pumping units began work to clear the consequences of the downpour.

Meteorological data show rain continuing intermittently across Latvia throughout the day. A storm bringing strong winds is still expected to reach the capital, forecast to arrive around nine in the evening.

Earlier in the day, strong winds already prompted rescue services to respond to multiple callouts involving fallen trees that needed to be cleared from roads and other areas.
