Latvia-Ukraine agreement on mutual recognition of driving licences takes effect
From September 2, Latvia and Ukraine allow residents to exchange a driving licence issued in one country for one from the other without retaking driving exams. The Latvian Transport Ministry announced the agreement's entry into force.

An agreement between Latvia and Ukraine on the mutual recognition and exchange of driving licences took effect on Wednesday, September 2, the Latvian Ministry of Transport has announced.
Under the new arrangement, residents of both countries will be able to exchange a driving licence issued in their home country for one issued by the other country, without having to sit driving exams again. This means Ukrainian citizens living in Latvia, as well as Latvian citizens living in Ukraine, will no longer need to retake practical or theoretical driving tests to obtain a licence from the other state.
The agreement is intended to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the transport sector and to simplify daily life for people moving between Latvia and Ukraine, including Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Latvia because of the war.
